blasphemy
Sooooo… Four more days to Independence. My biological clock is in a mess; been sleeping irregular hours. Rah… Bombed my Chemistry papers, Bio paper, BM paper, blah blah blah etc. *sniff*
Anyway, reading the papers today, I saw this article "Ikim: Sack Takaful man, Mohd Fauzi ‘not fit to hold position’. And I thought, ohh.. another one of ‘em internal power struggles in another government body. *yawn*
Until I saw this; "… for issuing an e-mail banning staff from wishing Hindus Happy Deepavali…" (0.o) woh. Wait.. it gets better; "…In an e-mail that was sent to the staff of the Islamic insurance company, Mohd Fauzi said wishing "Happy Durga Pooja", "Happy Lakshmi Pooja" and "Happy Deepavali" was deemed as expressing greetings to the Hindu Gods Durga, Lakhsmi and Krishna, which he viewed as going against the Islamic faith…" (0.0) hmm.
What happened was, this dude from Takaful Malaysia circulated an internal e-mail banning staff from wishing Hindus a Happy Deepavali. The Takaful Malaysia Syariah Department head, Mohd Fauzi Mustaffa.
"…staff were prohibited from conveying their greetings for the three celebrations and other similar festivities because they could be deemed as blasphemous…"
Blasphemous, from the word blasphemy = talking of God in a disrespectful or joking way. (Collins English Learner’s Dictionary)
Now isn’t that amusing. It certainly gives new meaning to the word "hypocrisy" neh? Makes you wonder. Really, Mr. Fauzi, have you ever attended any Deeparaya open houses? Do you have Hindu neighbours? Hindu colleagues, Hindu FRIENDS to be exact. Wait, you’ve just lost them all. Ohhh.. Nono, you didn’t even have any to begin with eh? Nope. Well you can’t blame them Mr. Fauzi. After all, you’ve been in that hut of yours facing the computer typing such rubbish and circulating them as e-mails to your staff.
zzz. Really lah. It’s these things which make you thankful to god that you have friends who are more mature and open-minded than an adult who finds festival greetings blasphemous.
Happy Deeparaya everyone.
P/s- Adlina, got open house ah?
